Welcome in Shabbat with music and community!

Usher in Shabbat with music and friends! Kabbalat Shabbat translates to “welcoming the sabbath”. This will be an East Side Jews spin on the classic with a community-led evening of songs, psalms, blessings, movement, schmoozing and plenty of time to hang out after. You bring your friends, we’ll bring the wine and Challah!

WHO:

All are welcome! Whether this is your first ever shabbat or you celebrate every Friday night, this event will be accessible for everyone. All ages welcome, but childcare will not be provided.

WHAT:

This will be a mystical Kabbalat (receiving of) Shabbat ritual led by the community, beginning with some grounding movement, then candle lighting, wine, and challah, teaching and singing Shabbat songs, and ending in joyful dancing!

WHERE:

SIJCC Inner Courtyard. This will be an outdoor event. The space is ADA accessible. Parking on campus is available but limited.

WHEN:

7-7:30: Candle lighting, Kiddush ( blessing over the wine) and Hamotzi (blessing over the bread) — There will be plenty of wine and Challah to go around!

7:30-8:30: Song Circle— A joyful welcoming of shabbat with singing, dancing, blessings and more!

8:30-9: Schmoozing and hanging!
