Purim Canned Food Drive with SELAH

Copy of Purim-3.jpeg

East Side Jews is honored to be partnering with SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition for a Purim canned food drive.

It’s time for a Purim mitzvah! The mitzvah of delivering Mishloach Manot, or gifts of food.

This time of year, we celebrate strong Queen Esther’s rescue of the Jewish people from the clutches of the evil Haman (boo!). What better way to celebrate life than to spread love to our unhoused neighbors.

From February 25 - March 3, community members and friends are encouraged to drop-off canned, and individually packaged dry goods in the provided bins at the SIJCC parking lot. The campus parking lot will be open 9am-5pm on weekdays, and 12-2pm for weekend donation drop-off. We are accepting canned goods and shelf stable dry goods in good condition (no dents, not expired). Items that are able to be handed out individually, rather than pre-cooked, are ideal. We are also accepting dog and cat food!

Examples:

Canned soups and chili, canned tuna or other protein, canned fruit, pickles. Pull tab cans are great but not required.

Shelf Stable boxed milk, crackers, chips, cookies, granola bars. Individual packets/servings are amazing.

PLUS, we are also accepting dog and cat food donations!

Your donation is so important to neighbors in our community who are lacking resources in this trying time. If you cannot make it out, or find yourself fresh out of aluminum, we encourage you to donate your “paper” (or rather, plastic) directly to SELAH.

DONATE MONEY HERE

SELAH is a 501(c)(3) organization of neighborhood organizers, who recognize unhoused individuals as fellow members of our community, worthy of the same dignity, respect, and representation afforded to any housed person.

Hag Purim Sameach!

Love,

The East Side Jews Activist Collective volunteers
