KICK OFF YOUR FRIDAY NIGHT WITH PRAYER AND INSPIRATION, ESJ STYLE!
*This special Shabbes will be taking place live, in-person, AND on Zoom!*
This Week’s Theme : “Teshuvah” and all that jazz
We’ll be talking days of awe and a “return” to what is “normal”, as well as reciting Mourners Kaddish for the now confirmed 200,000 Covid victims in the US, and the worldwide death toll as it nears 1 million.
Whether you’re counting the days, or wondering what month it is, take a moment for yourself to commemorate Shabbat this week. Our quick and dirty East Side Jews hang-out is the perfect virtual spot to bring your friends or make some new ones. Whether you have a regular Shabbat practice or feel like creating one, we hope you’ll join in for some Friday night magic.
BAKE THAT BREAD. POUR SOME WINE OR LA CROIX. LIGHT YOUR CANDLES AND SAGE…
BECAUSE, WHY NOT?
You Can Always Expect: Some art, some prayers, casual vibes, and damn good chat.
This Friday, September 25th, 6:30pm - The Shabbat of Return.
Our hearts are heavy.
Shabbat Shuva, the Friday/Saturday in between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, is traditionally a time to think hard on teshuva, repentance. We are having the first Shabbat of 5781 in-person, which seems, almost normal; but nothing is normal about this time. From rising death rates, to ineffective leadership, to the loss of RBG, we find that strength lies in community. What we have now is each other, this moment, and hope for a better future.
Join us for a soulful Shabbat in which we remember those lost and come together to imagine a better future.

Details and logistics for the in-person gathering:
WHO: You! Your friend. Your mom. As always, everyone is welcome. Come as you are. Solo, feeling low, kids in tow, wherever you’re at - East side jews will meet you.
WHAT: This week we are dipping our toes into the covid-adapted future by meeting in person. We’ll be sticking to our usual, casual vibes Shabbes… which means some schmoozing, inspiration and learning, sharing whats in our head or our hearts, and saying the prayers that we need to hear.
WHERE/WHEN: Our Shabbat event will take place in the SIJCC parking lot, an airy outdoor space on the corner of Effie st and Myra ave. Our official address is 1110 Bates ave. We’ll begin promptly at 6:30pm so feel free to come a few minutes early and find the perfect socially distanced spot.
T$EDAKAH: There are lots of ways to show up for your community. One way, is to make a financial contribution that feels comfortable and meaningful for you. We ask, if you are able, to consider giving anywhere from $1 - $1 million dollars so we can continue to provide resources and do this invaluable work. Venmo, Cash, and IOUs are all gladly accepted.
ACCESS: Social distancing will be in practiced. Masks will be worn. Chairs will be available for those who need them, or you are welcome to bring a blanket or pillow from home. Other accessibility needs can be met if we are informed ahead of time - email eastsidejews@sijcc.net with your situation or requests.
